I traveled to England to race in the Cowes Classic last August and we raced with a passenger in the back of the raceboat. You can see just about see him in the first pic.
He is a German plastic surgeon with a passion for offshore powerboats. He actually bought another boat that was racing while at the event! It's the one in the background in the first Cigarette 28 photo.

The boat is on the market again.

I think it's a little bit expensive as at this price you can get easily a Donzi or Cig from 2000+ and they were more competitive. The only advatange the boat has is the incredible sound of the V12 Lamborghinis.

If the Dr is a Germnan and likes offshore maybe he knows my friend Jochen Mass.
Jochen is a big fan of offshore and he and I became friends back in the seventies. Marlboro (Philip Morris) took me to Europe to advise them on an offshore team and Jochen and JHames Hunt were the Formula 1 drivers at the time.

What is history of the 38 foot Bertram and the 36 foot Cigarette?
I'm not familiar with the Cigarette but the Bertram is the ex Toleman Group/Carlsberg boat campaigned by Ted Toleman and Smitty Smith. It became a pleasure boat in the early 90s and was renamed 'Ocean Thunder'. It would sit at Cougar in Warsash all year and then have its annual outing spectating at the Cowes race.

I didnīt know it was 41ī long. For some reason I thought it was smaller, like 36/38ī??

Welcome to Proprider littlenige.
The length of the boat might appear a bit deceiving cause it has a very long bow. Sort of like the old Bonito boats.

The Bertram was built in 1974 & was called Bertram 49er by its owner Preston Henn,I believe he then sold it to Howard Quam who named it Flapjack,he then sold it to Ted Toleman and it was named Toleman Group/Peter Stuyvesant/Carlsberg, its last race was the 1986 Cowes Torquay and it achieved 3rd place,it was then sold to my friend Alan Clark.

You beat me to it Nige:) The windscreen was re-modelled by Pete Currington of Cougar Marine in about 1982 i think, the tailpipes where also redirected through the transom instead of out the side.87mph in her day as well i have been told.

The Toleman's Bertram was the former second Flap Jack. The white one.
The first Flap Jack(former 49er),the red one, was badly damaged in a race in 1978 and abandoned.

This picture was taken in 1982 at the Peter Stuyvesant - UKOBA - Great Yarmouth Race.
It is of my father (also named John Moore). The Boat is a Phantom 16', the first "race deck" model to race in UK offshore, and the second "race deck" model out of the plug. The first, built in blue and white raced in the north of England in a powerboat racing series that they had at the time.
The picture was taken from a helicopter, who at the time was dead level with the raceboat!
The hull was built as light as possible, using GRP.
After the first race the Gel Coat was crazed and extra glassing inside was needed.
Later, better versions of the hull were built using kevlar etc.
The Phantom 16' is still racing today, an incredible monohull, when well set up, but a harsher a ride you will not get!
Strangely, my first race was navigating in a Phantom 16' in 1982, and my last race was in 2002 ...in a Phantom 16' ....
Still like a cat though!

Every morning when I wake up, my bones go "crack!"
Even had to have a hot bath this morning to get the body sorted!
