Interesting concept though I'm not entirely sure what they're doing.

I guess they are selling the driver's seat to the highest bidder and expecting that person to pay their expenses too.

They are selling the Driver and Navigator seats to the highest bidder (not sure what the reserve is likely to be set at though). The winner will have to get a P1 licence and get to the events as well as pay for hotels/travel etc. It says its in the formula but I thought that they were getting a Fountain or Chaudron for the next season. Don't see it making the reserve though, unless its quite low.

Mark Sampson who navigated for them last year decided he did not want to do it this year, so they saw this as a way of funding the race season

We think it costs about £100,000 to run a P1 boat for the year, so I would expect he would be looking for at least £10,000 - £20,000 from this for the season, plus picking up your own hotels/flights

I'm surprised they didn't set some sort of expectation on what they are looking for someone to pay. More likely yo get some serious offers that way. They should also offer to share some of the prize money ... that way there is at least an expectation of getting something back :)
