It's tragic when this happens. I was racing at an event where a racer died and it cast a terrible pall over the weekend. As an organizer, a serious incident was my worst nightmare but fortunately, never happened.

Seen too much of this at too many races!
It's amazing all of the people who go with the attitude of that won't happen to me when it comes to the way they set up the safety features in their rides.

Does anyone have any more info? Were they in their 28 Skater? They were very good friends of mine, and if there is any more details, I would appreciate that.

Hello rvcat28. Sorry to welcome you to Proprider under such circumstances.
The previously posted links no longer seem to work but here is what I could find.

Thanks for the update. The photo is of S-77 a Skater 28 which was called Spirit of the UAE. Abdul-Latif bought the old Victory Marine 28 and won at least one race with it. It was a good boat and I am saddened if it was involved in this tragic incident. The guy's were experienced racer's and any info about this might help to understand. The water in Abu Dhabi can be very unforgiving as we saw in '97 when SH Khalid crashed. It is always hard to deal with friends who are involved with this type of thing, but we can hope to learn something to make us all safer next time out. R.I.P Faisal.
