The boat looked and ran great. It brought back so many memories. I had one of my new 24 footers down there for the weekend and my son and I found ourselves running next to Bounty Hunter out of the harbor.
I told him that the very first time I saw that boat was in May of 1979 at the Bacardi race. After a very rough and tough race, Bounty Hunter beat me for second place, I took third and Betty won that day. I told my son, don't let him beat me again, let's go........of course since we only had a single 250 E-Tec Evinrude, we had to concede. But it brought great joy to many to see the boat run again.
Here are some shots from it's glory days.....and my new 24 foot banana boat.

Love the lines of that 24 Charlie. Then again I guess I would say that judging from my latest (old) aquisition.
Is your 24 available with a sterndrive?

Thanks Ben....yes, sterndrive, gas or diesel, outobards, single or twins, on a bracket or on the transom....total custom, whatever the customer wants.
I see on your new boat a Cigarette decal, but I also see it is only 7 feet wide, there was only one of those made and it was a twin outboard for Doc Magoon.....what have you got there?

1980 Excalibur 24.
The previous owner for whatever reason couldn't find a template for an Excalibur decal so he had one made up using the Cigarette logo but with "Excalibur" substituted for "Cigarette". Go figure.
Those will be coming off and the correct ones put on in the spring when the restoration is complete.

Excalibur......the foundation for the Fountain line of boats. Bill and Katherine Farmer owned and ran Excalibur...they were great people and built a great line of boats.
Reggie and Gary Garbrecht bought one of their 30 footers and started making boats called Executioners.
JC Simon tried to make them give him credit for the design, so they came up with the idea of changing the design, someway.....yes, let's add a beak to the nose and a pad to the bottom....the rest is history.

My other Excalibur family member is this 1988 Chris Craft Stinger 311 which I believe is the same hull with the addition of the pad that became the Executioner.
Chris Craft in their 1988 brochure credits Jean Claude Simon with the design.

Correct......you have some classic boats there Ben.....obviously you don't take these over to Cowes for the annual boat beating.

So you have been there! No, we use the 1980 Velocity 30 for that, it's used to it as it's lived there almost all of its life.

Trying to do my best to make the 2009 Cowes.....if the fuel prices stay down...that totally killed my effort for the Round Britain budget this year. Hope to have some sponsorship for the race....... and then try to do the old Don Aronow thing.....sell the boat after the race and make a profit on the whole deal. (Of course he won the race and that made the sale easier.)
