There is a 390 Velocity being put together at the factory. Heading across the pond. Anyone have any info on its destination?

Possibly a Round Britain 08 entrant or a P1 boat? Do you know how its been set up, engines etc?

I guess I will need to do a bit of investigation.

Staggered 525's with Konrads.

That'll be interesting, we haven't seen any Conrads over here as yet.

Do you know if it's headed for the UK, or Europe somewhere?

Jon, not sure exactly where! They just said it was going over to that area.

Doesnt sound like a P1 boat. Non stepped, non dry-sumped drives.
Does it have a canopy?

I was thinking perhaps SuperSport in P1. No canopies allowed.

Also my thought, since I cant image it would be much competition for a 39 skater with 850's. Even the SS boats are stepped though. And konrads are great drives, but they're built for reliability, not racing. With a power/weight class you need to maximize your power to the prop.

They must have gotten one hell of a deal because that boat and that package are not going to be competitive in P1 or Round Britain

Why would that be?

Let's see.

OL, Skater and Cigarette are running the new "Mercury 715" which is an 850 Merc with the blow off valve acting like a turbo pop off valve and regulating the hp down to 715. Up until the engine produces this 715 hp the "pop off valve" is not open so the engine is going to run very hard.

The Fountain has the 625 Ilmores

All the boats above have Speedmasters or Surface drives.

Then you take 25 year old boat design and throw some 525 with some unknown diesel drive and one expects it to be competitive?

I think the Fountain raised the bar quite a bit higher than that last year.

Granted, the Velocity would have no chance in P1 Evolution but could be competitive in SuperSport.

The 390 according to Powerboat Magazine was tested at 86 mph with 500 EFIs. Weight would have to be added to comply with the 4.5kg/hp rule but the class is restricted to a top speed of 85 mph for 2008.

The boat would also fit in RB2 for Round Britain. The other boats in the class (aside from the canopied Fountain) would in my opinion have no speed advantage although the rough water capability of some of the others might be better.

I don't believe anyone that is not running these "Cheater Motors" from Mercury will stand a chance in P1 Evo as they are just too powerful and they can play the game with the computer controlled pop off valve to make thing read what they wish on a dyno.

I heard the engines make 900 lbs of torque. That is a ton when compared to a 625 Ilmore or such.

Super sport was dominated by the 525 engine in both the Dragon, Formula and the Chaudron. They could all run way faster then 85 mph in the race so the racer needs more to be competitive.

Is the 85 mph an "Average" or a top speed?

Round Britain, does it have a hp limit or class? If not, 85 mph best conditions will not be fast enough for the good/bad they will see.

What Fountain is racing?

85 mph is the top speed allowed in SuperSport.

T.2(p) There will be a maximum top speed of 85 mph/136.79kph/73.865
nautical mph (as determined by the Official Timekeeper) for safety reasons.
The maximum speed of boats will be checked using GPS or other electronic
speed measuring devices. Any boat found to have reached or exceeded the
maximum top speed for a period of more than 3 seconds during a race will be
subject to a 60 second time penalty for a first offence, a 90 second time
penalty for a second offence, a 180 second time penalty for a third offence,
etc... Any boat found to have reached or exceeded the maximum speed for
30 or more continuous seconds shall be disqualified.

Having seen the Formula and Dragon run on more than one occasion, I would agree that Extremeboat.Com could easily exceed 85mph but the Formula looked like it would struggle to reach 85 on its best day. I haven't seen the stretched Chaudron run so I won't comment. Perhaps Dragon and ForTwo, both members of this forum and SuperSport racers would care to chime in. Mike, Gino?

There are seven classes for RB08. As previously mentioned, aside from the Fountain, most of the boats would seem to run 80 -85 mph. Here's the link to the Fountain entrants website.http://www.blastoffracing.com/index.html

That fountain looks good but the Bravos will let it down on a race that rough and long.

Guess it would be a good Super Sport boat but the cockpit rules eliminate it.

That's pretty nice.

I see they have a Donzi that is in the running also. Looks really good.

Chaudron 33's top was 87 as i can remember , the Chaudron 41 and Ocean dragon's formula go way over the 85.

I was thinking perhaps SuperSport in P1. No canopies allowed.SS boats can have canopies but they can't be completely closed, which I don't understand. For safety the canopies should be closed.

Team Konrad took a first in the Cowes-Poole-Cowes race back in April.

They then entered the P1 race in Vigo as a wild card Supersport entry and placed third in the sprint race. Unfortunately, were later disqualified for being underweight.
