Came by this photo the other day - Screwdriver - must be early days of Don Shead!
Built by Souters in late 60's?
One for Graham!

no - hopefully Graham can help.
On leaving college my first job was in the D.O. at Souters and by then they were having a big clean out of the offices.
Loads of historic drawings / photos / records were all just binned. This is one of the few that were still left when I got there.
Such a shame that so much was lost of so many well known raceboats!

Interesting boat Robin Bateman's Screwdriver as it was powered by a 325 hp AEROMARINE a long time before the engine made its name in the 70's.
Robin was the owner of the Gloster Hotel on Cowes Esplanade unfortunately now demolished. It raced one year with a perspex canopy giving crew protection but was obviously not as strong as modern canopies as it was smashed by the pounding and they retired soon after.

Some canopy!
It intrigues me to know just what drawings were done for the Souter raceboats because for Telstar,T2,HTS,Avenger Too,Melodrama,Wicked Lady,Shady Lady,Avenger 50,only lines plans and a few sterngear drawings were done.Goldrush had a full set of construction drgs.Telstar was drawn out on Don`s formica topped kitchen table.
I remember you at Souters ,Adam ,when we were working on the King of Spain`s cafe racer (the pleasure version of a CUV,where he could zoom off out of sight of the paparazzi.)

Seems a long time ago - never did get a run out in the Cafe racer. Kept getting promised a trip out on trials by my boss - then came in one day to find the boat had gone!
Certainly by the time I got to Souters no drawings existed of any of the previous raceboats. Very little in the way of photos or anything infortunately.
Was certainly an interesting start to my working life and learnt a few realities about the marine business pretty quickly.....

I will have to find it but have a picture of her showing a different canopy more rounded than the one you have posted and I think it was tinted orange as well am I dreaming?
