Does anyone know of the whereabouts of Don Sheads classic 37ft power boat originally known as Enfield Avenger and laterly Unowot from the seventies. She raced under the number 717 I last saw her in the early 80`s at the River Yar Boatyard on the Isle of Wight on the back of a lorry and in a sorry state. At the time I would have loved to have bought her and restored her but didnt have the resources. I am hoping that being built of aluminium she has not been sold for scrap. I would love to know if she has been restored or if not hopefully still in one piece somewhere.
Cheers Paul

"Thunderbolt" on this forum will have the answers, failing that the "fish" has a rough idea on history.

Are you sure it was Unowot at the River Yar - more likely to have been the Blitz / British Buzzard boat I think?

Hi
Yes Mike has the answer.....
When I collected Thunderbolt from Don Shead he told me the only boat he would love to get back and restore now was UNOWOT but she had been confiscated by the Spanish/Gib authorities for drug running and was under a pile of other boats in a custom compound. Just 2 days ago Tim B-C told me he was there when she was dragged up the slipway by a digger ripping out some of the bottom. She was then vandalised ,engines vanished and now she is also not to be found. Asad end to another great boat.

why not buy Miss Enfield 2 and restore her, we know where she is and is available at £25.000 no outdrives but 2 BPM VOLCANO'S.
Then the complete set of ct winners ex Sopwith would be back together
THUNDERBOLT TELSTAR and MISS E

That boat has been the subject of being at Gib on a beach for donkeys years, and I have yet to hear of a positive sighting of it.I have my own `Unowot`and it ain`t for sale.Word on the street some years back ,was that Miss Enfield II was in the hands of Chris Kaye who was going to use it as a fishing boat!Shead boats seem to attract the fishing community. When the plastic Unoembassy was driven by Tim Powell in the Needles race, one of the marks was the Shambles light vessel which Tim took rather tight. On the next lap the guy on the light vessel was ready for him,and chucked a load of fisheads into the cockpit,or so we are told?

Thanks for all your replys gentlemen. Looks like we have been robbed of any chance of even seeing her again. What a criminally undignified demise for such a beautiful boat.
My position is that I am selling my Sunseeker Martinique 36 as the kids are now at university and the family always seem to have other things to do on sunny days and especially when the antifoul needs doing! Restoring a classic class 1 powerboat has always been the main item on my "things to do before I die" list.
Ben.
Thankyou for the welcome. I hope I can contribute a fair bit to this forum. As a teenager I was reading about and going to powerboat races while the other guys were into football and cricket.
Mike.
Miss Enfield 2 could be a very likely contender and would be interested to know more about her structural condition etc. Wasnt she the one that became the ill fated Blitz and later British Buzzard? I remember at that point Roger Allen put a pair of Sabre diesels in her. Did the Volcano`s come out of one of Levi`s hulls? I know he fitted them to many of his race hulls.
Saw Thunderbolt at Earls Court. She is a credit to you. Do you own Telstar too? Last time I saw her was at Rye on the slipway. A chap called Dick Benge owned her. I think he bought the Kevlar Uno Embassy later on. Not sure what became of her.
Adam.
It was definately Unowot. I have some pics somewhere in the loft I will drag out. She was still in her light blue livery with 717 on the side. It was approx 1981 when I last saw her.
Flying Fish.
Now youve got me going! Fishing boat indeed!! Spose its better than drug running though. If you`ve got a Unowot where can I buy one?
