Here's a selection of US and European raceboats from the mid eighties through 1992. Feel free to fill in the details. It might be something to do on these long winter nights!

As far as I know numbers 18 and 19 (the same boat as 59 and 70), is the boat I inspected with Gordon Mcmath in Miami 2005 whilst at the Miami boat show in a terrible state for A. N. Other who didn't buy it. Drew Langdon bought it originally for P1 and ended up part exchanging it with Buzzi for his current race boat and Fabio has now entered the boat in Round Britain next year ............ anyone know differently?

Nr #7 is a Frodé 32 designed, built and raced by Mikael Frodé in offshore 2 in 1987 and 1988. It has triple mercury 2,4 EFI and a 7 beam. He still has the boat and it is for sale through him.

I bet Fabio is pulling a large one!
Would he pitch up with an old boat?
If he is going to do it, it will be with a new FB design / engines.

Good point, but having an old (historic) boat enables him to run quadruple engines which are not allowed in any other class - maybe more clever than it first appears?

Cookee - Do you think the Italian master of Offshore Powerboat Racing is going to pitch up in a 25 year old boat?
Knowing FB's record, none of us will believe his boat in the pits on June 21!

Within a year of that were done for 15 life times?

I don't know anything really - just like everyone else I'm making relatively uneducated guesses going on what little information I have. The one thing I have learnt since writing a page in a magazine is that people are quite willing to tell you stuff they wouldn't usually tell you!
Reality ....................... He's entered White Iveco, Cesa is being renovated, and he could turn up in something completely different!
Write it as you are hearing it!

When you consider what the competiton was (Babycresci,Fresh & Clean etc), it makes you wonder why come up with a wide hull (more wt),narrow tunnel),complicated wing flaps (wt again) and so much engine wt aft it must have been a right ol balancing act as to where to put the fuel.Maybe that`s where the wing flap comes into play.Throttleman must have earned his crust.
There again they never went that to find out.

I still think there are some tricks being missed with race Trimaran designs - I was very keen to see one of my designs built a few years ago for 3C class.
Differed fairly significantly from all others and I believe it would have solved many of the problems that others had experienced. However a concept that was going to be too expensive and time consuming to build and then develop.

13? I thought Gideon Hillman and myself held the record at 14!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry to disappoint you!
After that my next race would have been the Cancer Research race in '79 (aged 15) where I drove a 16' Phantom. Had my father navigating and just as well there were no intercoms in those days!
Remember him having I think 5 pieces of tape on the side of the cockpit to take one off after each lap. We finished the race and there were still 5 pieces of tape on the cockpit side - he could'nt let go of the handholds long enough to remove them!!

Seeing you guys vying for title of youngest boy racer made me put 2 and 2 together and rumble the fact that `Ciao` was referring to the nipper who got the RHS ride in 1979 Cancer race.So delving into the fish archives,I see on the DVD it was Glyn Howells (not the `Ciao` version) as stated on his plaque he received afterwards,(didn`t get one of those Adam I bet).Unfortunately no age was given in the film so I can`t act as referee on this occassion.

Had another thought. In the race report it does say Glyn Howells was 14.Younger by name,Younger by....................Keep at it Adam and go for the oldest as well.Maybe Gas Turbine tri-marans will be the rage by then ,if the money hasn`t run out.

I wonder who the oldest British racer actually is/was?. Harry Sired was getting up there when he did his last race in 96 or 97 and Alan Webb was certainly no youngster towards the end of his racing career.

What age was Lady Arran when she finished?
Always amazed me and good for a quote or two!

You are probably right Adam re Lady A,must have been in seventies.I would need to check the archives.Talk about quotes.I like the one about fixing a small outboard to the tail of a donkey to see how it would perform up the loch when she was little.I am in touch with her nephew every Xmas in Canada. He says she is still going but is bedridden which must be awful for her.

I think the last boat in that series of pictures is Sergio Meon, in 'SM Racer'.
What a tool! 4 x Mercruiser 1000SC's
check out the video from Cowes....Awsome.

Yes, possibly the most beautiful canopied mono ever made. The brochure of Victory Design says it were "only" 800SC's but still good enough to win at Cowes with 80kts average. It wasn't that successful later in the States.
I read in some magazines that it was built by a shipyard called C4. Does anyone know more about that builder?

Hi Olli,
Thanks for the pics - a couple of which I have never seen. I have no knowledge about the C4 yard, but would dispute the most beautiful canopied boat bit! For my money it's (and I assume we are talking monhulls only here!) Apache Heritage!

Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder, I guess. I wouldn't say Apache Heritage is beautiful. To me it has that special appeal of purpose-built vessels (like lifeboats, oil rig supply vessels or even ULCC's). For sure it is an impressive machine.

I do love the way a Buzzi cat with Trimax drives becomes a 'Fountain', with 'Fountain Drive Systems'!
I suppose at least Reggie has aknowledged the Seatek diesels.

Pic 2 is a Robson RV33.
Pic 3 When I asked Bill Barry-Cotter at the German C1 GP in '00 the only thing he said about that mono was that it has been built by Riviera but he said the same about his Tencara so...
