OSSTX = OSS (series designation) Turbine Extreme
OSSCX = Cat Extreme (Unlimited Blower Motors basically)
OSSVX = V Bottom Extreme (non Merc 525)
OSSCO = Cat Outboard
OSSVL = V Lite (single engine)

OSS, Offshore Super Series, aka the series that Mercury Built has the following classes:

OSSTX, which is a class designed to steal the fast boats from SBI's organization by allowing the turbine powered boats to race, albeit in a class by itself, with the OSS guys in a bid to put on a better show with more boats.

OSSCX is the class where Mercury is pushing their 1200 engines and others race what ever they can in that class as long as it is not a turbine powered boat. Essentially this class is what engine builders other than Mercury are regulated to as the "premiere" classes are Mercury only.

OSSVX is the class where the V bottom boats that do not meet the SV rules and use a Merc 525. So any V bottom with an engine not made by Merc or any engine other than the 525 Merc can race in this class. This is the class where Fountain races their "Cat Killer" and actually never finishes a race and is basically a joke. If your V bottom is too fast for P1, then you are racing in VX.

OSSCO is for the Cat boats between 28' - 32' that use exclusively the Mer 2.5 engines in quantity of 2. Mercury's, sorry OSS's pro stock class.

OSSVL is the former "A" class boats that have to use a single Merc 525 engine. Once again a Merc only class. If your single engine boat does not have a Merc 525, then it has to race in the P1-P4 classes.

Essentially these are the classes that Mercury has created exclusively for their engine packages. The "A" Class is now the Super V Lite, the old "B" class is the new Super V class with twin 525's. The OSSSCL is the old Factory 3 boats racing only with the Merc. 525's and called the Super Cat Lite class now. The OSSSC is the new Mercury only 850 supercharged class as last years OSSSC teams have left OSS as they had no votes in deciding this class so in turn they voted to leave the OSS foe.

I think OSS is dying under the Mercury mandated racing. The classes lack depth in anything other than the OSSSCL and the boat counts are down and the venues keep changing.

Mercury hasnt mandated which engines to use, the racers voted. the SC850 mess is, just that.

But youre great feed back is just what the sport needs, and youre log in name DEFINES it.

If you actually believe that Bill Mauff, the only racing member of OSSSC at the time, Mike DeFrees, and Randy Kent, who is not even racing anymore, constituted a "Majority Rule" vote for Super Cat, then you must have been just a surprised as OSS when the actual voting Majority left in disgust with Mercury's tactics and took their show elswhere.

It is no secret that Mike DeFrees was/is given free Mercury engines/support for his team, Billy Mauff has received the same perks and in exchange, those two have been the Mercury's Cheer leaders.

Please don't shoot the messenger, or the bearer of the truth.

Don't like the facts, change the situation.

MOSS was started when Mercury could no longer control Alweiss as GM was willing to put more $$ into APAB than Mercury could and thus they got Tom Abrams, (Gerry Gilbreath was in Mercury's pocket) Billy Mauff, Mike DeFrees together to push the others for a split.

This could go on forever. But my name does not make me wrong and does not change the facts.

Destin is a Ghost town this week and Key West is poised to be the big show next week. hmmmmmm....

Say thanks Mercury!
