The 2008 Round Britain Offshore Powerboat Race is going to be the longest and toughest offshore endurance race in the world for years and a huge adventure.

We seem to have hit a nerve at least with the Brits because at this point in time in early December we have the “intent to race” of over 60 participants which is frankly amazing. Even though we haven’t achieved funding as yet guy’s can’t help themselves and are asking to join in and going off and buying boats and rigging them.

During this race the competitors will be spending up to sixteen days away from home as the race alone consumes at least fourteen with ten legs of over 170 miles back to back with just two lay over days in Scotland.

This race is going to be the ultimate challenge for both man and machinery. The course takes the boats around Lands End and up through the Irish Sea to Scotland. When they have rested for a couple of days they then have to contend with Fog, Rain and the notorious North Sea all the way to the South coast and home, 1600 miles of big seas with big holes.

We are extending this challenge to the International scene. We want the Italians, the Americans, the Middle Easy boys in fact you can come from wherever to take part as there is going to be an element within the race for International Teams to compete for the 60 year old beautiful gold Duke of York Trophy. This trophy hasn’t been won for over twelve years and has been donated by the RYA specifically for this endurance race and the International teams.

So we lay down the challenge, if you have the desire to take part in this “once in a lifetime” adventure and be a part of International Offshore Powerboat History then have a look at our web site www.roundbritain.info and then contact us for an entry form. We look forward to seeing you AND your boat.
