A time trial on the River Trave will signal the start of three days of entertainment on and off water when the Powerboat P1 World Championship arrives in Travemunde, Germany, on the 29th June.

This will be the third consecutive year that this Baltic holiday resort has hosted the Powerboat P1 German Grand Prix of the Sea and more than 100,000 are expected to arrive in the town to witness the spectacular action, enjoy the 'Gourmet Mile' of food and refreshment stalls and party the night away to the various live bands and DJs that are now an established part of a Powerboat P1 event.

On the water 20 boats, including two all-German teams, will compete for the Powerboat P1 German Grand Prix of the Sea title, which comprises two races, the first leg starting at 3pm on Saturday, the second at 3pm on Sunday. The action will be fast and furious and very competitive as the traditional 'powerhouses' of European racing, Italy and the UK, face strong and determined challenges from Austria, Belgium, Malta, China and the United States.

Powerboat P1 is one of the current success stories of international motorsport as it brings together exciting racing close to the shoreline, support events such as the dramatic Thundercats and jet-skis performing in Travemunde, and evening fun for all the family. The action, the atmosphere, the glamour and the partying are just some of the reasons why year-on-year the German people have supported the Powerboat P1 World Championship weekend in their tens of thousands. And this year they have the added interest of two home-grown teams to further whet the appetite!

First run in 2005 in Travemunde, the Friday afternoon time trial has now become a hallmark of the German event and is as popular with the teams and pilots as it is with the crowds who gather along the riverbanks and promenade. It is the first time that the public can really get to see and experience these giant muscle machines open throttle. Starting at 2.45pm, the noise, the speed and the sight of high powered racing craft speeding along the River Trave is a perfect taster to the main event.

Adding further spice to this maritime extravaganza will be a weekend Poker Run, open to local boat clubs and expected to involve more than 40 pleasure craft from local boat clubs. Many of these will join the flotilla of hundreds of small craft that line the P1 racecourse and add to the great atmosphere of the occasion.

The Powerboat P1 German Grand Prix of the Sea takes place over the weekend of 30th June-1st July.

Sure will be ready for Cowes Mike. the picture is like 1 month old.tubes are already attached. The boat is a totaly new concept and building it was a challenge with the infusion vacuum system. Should be damn strong, just wondering how she will react on short turns with that 5th stepp. We gonna do some testing soon. you need to stay behind us in Zeebrugge :-) our only sponsor will be there to watch us racing, and will decide the budget 4 next years P1. Just lap us the last round Mike!

The Outlerlimits is also five steps and seems to handle pretty well.
I'm sure you will be more competitive than that, and we all still remember what "happy Belgian's" look like from Anzio last year, so hopefully you will do well :)

From the P1 Website:

After the emotional roller coaster of Naples, OSG is back in business and having decided to use its set-back in the Italian Grand Prix of the Sea to give the boat a major overhaul, pilots Giancarlo Cangiano and Giovanni Carpitella are ready to return to winning ways after putting the shock of overturning at high speed behind them!

"The Powerboat P1 Italian Grand Prix was such a roller coaster of emotions," explains OSG team owner and throttleman, Giancarlo Cangiano. "It was our home event and expectations were high. We started well enough but then drama unfolded and we had to be rescued! When the boat returned to the pits it was flooded and not fit to race, although the team decided to work through the night in the hope of making Sunday's second leg."

"I remember that following morning, preparing for the pilots briefing but not expecting to race, when there was a big cheer and I could see the boat was being lowered into the water. The team technicians performed a minor miracle to get the boat ready for the Grand Prix and we went on to finish fifth. After the disappointment of the previous day it was a very special feeling to see my OSG in the water."

With a five week break before the next event in Germany, the team decided to choose this moment to make a complete overhaul, looking at everything from even the smallest parts. Even the engines went back to the Sterling Performance Head Quarters in Michigan, USA.

"All electrical components have now been replaced, the engines are back and we now have a fully digital control system," continues Cangiano. "I think the boat will be back to its best in Travemunde. Our aim now is to get back the speed that helped us to win the 2006 World Championship."
