This Magnum 23 competed in the Cowes-Torquay-Cowes race in the mid 60s. The crew were Bill Shand-Kydd and the infamous Lord Lucan.

This is how she looked in 1994.

A warm welcome to you Captain Chaos. It's nice to have you here.

Ultimatum is not as bad as it looks.

I saw the boat a couple of years ago in Littlehampton, England and though cosmetically it was in a sad state, the drive train which had been installed in 93/95 was virtually unused.

So far as I know, Ultimatum had been bought by a German who wanted the boat to be repainted and the process had begun (sanding down to the original white gelcoat) but then he disappeared (first Lord Lucan, then the German hmnnn - the curse of Ultimatum?) . Nothing has happened since then.

Just wanted to jump in and say hello!

This new site looks fantastic and is something that can only grow in the future.

Thanks for remembering the old race boats too with this historic area.

Hello Top Banana, great to have you here.

How are things going at HORBA?

More like curse of German owners, Thunderbolts state was down to being abandoned by her German lady owner!
By the way Billy Shand-Kydd is wheelchair bound after being thrown from a horse some years ago!
I understand that Ultimatum is now being restored by Hillyards in Littlehampton but do not know for who.

A friend of mine owned Ultimatum in the early nineties. He had it repowered with an OMC 454 390hp backed by a hydraulic tramsmission and a Cobra drive. It ran about 60mph on its best day.

The boat had a very fine entry forward and was prone to stuffing. We did it one day at only 30mph just off Cowes! It stuffed again big time in a very rough Southampton race in 95.

If you are ever down in the Littlehampton area it would be great if you could get some pics of the restoration. Say hi to John and Bert Lambson for me if find yourself there.
