I understand it was a little rough
I understand it was a little rough
Yep! Paul Howes who drives Marex just called me, 25' in some places, methinks he had been in the bar for an hour or two though!
Was invited to race with him this weekend....good call staying at home!

Post-race quotes from Mike (Dragon on this forum) and his wife Jackie:
Mike Shelton - Extremeboat - Navigator
'It was a fantastic start. Everything went well even though some of the waves at the bottom of the Island were 5 metres high â€" the largest we have ever raced in. The boat was a dream."
Jackie Hunt - Extremeboat - Driver
"It was fantastic. I have never raced in seas like that before, and I loved every minute of it. We were flying off some of the waves on the other side of the island. When we returned from the lap of the island, I had such a good lead in class. That we could afford to ease of the throttle and make sure we brought the boat home. To win the first round of 2007 as current world champions was great feeling."

Today's race was cancelled - too rough. They will be doing speed trial runs into Valletta harbor instead.
Have to give credit to the P1 organisers. They want to put on a show for the spectators.
A few pics from yesterday's race:

Team Outerlimits won the Evolution time trials and Mike and Jackie won in Super Sport. Each team that took part was awarded ten points.
Yesterday's winner, Fainplast was protested for missing a turn mark and the protest was upheld, OSG Donzi has been officially declared as the winner of the Malta Grand Prix.

That much is for sure! P1 really seem to be doing it well!
I think their publicity machine is as good as we have seen here in Europe for the longest time.
The idea of a time trial, when it was thought too rough to race, was inspired.
By all accounts the spectators went home happy!

Hi Guys,
Thanks for all the comments. It was a great weekend.
The sea was seriously rough in places ... very much like last year but bigger with big rollers. Bottom of the island was huge!!!
Race results and time trial times at:
http://www.extremeboat.com/racereport/2007/Malta%20Race%20Report.htm
The outlerlimits boat was running REALLY well before they broke a water pump ... nice to see the Americans in the series at last.
Time trials were a great idea for the public ... but because we waited to the last minute (hoping the wind would drop and allow us to race round the island again), we were not really able to run side by side. Worked very well tho.
