After reading some “political” forum posts on other sites this afternoon, and posting boat pictures up on to the Round Britain site, it left me thinking “what if”?

The 2008 Round Britain rules have been written specifically for the race, by Mike Lloyd, Rob Beakhust and with help from other notable offshore experts Jon Fuller etc.

If the 2008 race is a massive success, it will leave behind boats that can race in its classes – and more besides! Perhaps The RYA should take a look at that potential scenario now, with a view to the 2009 season.

Remember that the 1984 RB race gave the UK national and UKOBA series' plenty more big boats for the next four or more years!

Perhaps a “convergence” of the UK offshore race boats, (hard, soft, Honda, etc.) with the impetus of the Round Britain could be the way forward ...?

What a good idea, probably too much bureaucracy for it to actually happen though, would be nice if it did cause more people to keep racing though.

With regards to “bureaucracy” I genuinely do not know enough about what has being going on in the UK scene since I first raced in 1981!

I am more interested in going racing (re phrase) - seeing other people going racing!

Which kind of brings me back to the thread starter.
I was pre race testing a 17' Argo Cat with a Yamaha 90 late one late February night in Cape Town, South Africa.
When along side me is a RIB with a Yamaha 90, and he wants to play...

I am driving a boat that is UIM Certified at 83 mph (one way), what can that RIB be good for?

60 ?

Suffice to say as we start hitting a few bumps – he waves at us- and we get to see his transom!

Surely the the joy of offshore racing, horses for courses!
